Korido and Kalantog at the Opening of 2013 Asia-Pacific Conference

During the opening program of the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of Social Workers, ARTIST, Inc. rendered a performance last June 5, 2013 at the Manila Hotel, Intramuros. Through its performing ensembles, namely Korido and Kalantog, ARTIST, Inc. presented an excerpt of the play entitled Igway sa Ulnan which depicted the local culture of indigenous communities in the Philippines. The presentation concluded with the conference delegates joining in the community dance and music.

Likhandula with DKK

The Korido Theatre Ensemble led by Angel Pineda and Dan Dagondon conducted a two-day Likhandula Improbisasyon sa Sining Pantanghalan on June 1-2, 2013 at the Benguet State University, La Trinidad. Eighteen participants from Dap-ayan ti Kultura iti Kordilyera (DKK) and other local network organizations attended the theatre workshop. The activity culminated with the presentation of short performances showcasing local culture and social issues affecting the indigenous communities in Cordillera.

Special Program for the Arts (SPA) Luzon Drama 2013

ARTIST, Inc. together with the ARTIST-PARS Association, Inc. hosted the SPA Luzon  Regional Drama Workshop on May 20-24, 2013 at the Continuing Education Center (CEC) Building, UP Los Baños, Laguna. Teacher-participants from the different SPA schools in Luzon attended the five-day drama workshop. Resource speakers of the workshop were the following:  Pastor Ventura Bitot on rituals and folklores of indigenous communities; Ricamela Palis, Epol Talatala, and Yohan Palis on music theatre; Dan Dagondon, Gab Perez, Kairos Isla, and Exequel Magcase on improvisation and community theatre; and Vannessa San Juan on the history and functions of theatre in the Philippine setting. The workshop culminated with the presentation of short performances depicting different issues on the environment and local heritage.

DepEd Releases Memo for SANAYGURO

The Department of Education released a memorandum last April 18, 2013, in support for the SANAYGURO National Arts Training for Teachers of Special Program in the Arts (SPA).

World Theatre Day 2013 Pilipinas

March 27, 2013 -- In celebration of the World Theater Day, the National Committee on Dramatic Arts of NCCA and the LINANG Inc spearheaded the simultaneous performances of arts organizations in different sites of the Philippines. 

In SM City Calamba, three organizations simultaneously rendered short performances at exactly 4:00 pm. The Korido Kalantog of ARTIST Inc performed a mask theatre entitled Haring Malupit at the ground floor;  Sitsiritsit Letran Calamba presented a value-based skit entitled Portia Pantot at the 2nd floor; and the Koryo Arts Ensemble of Liliw-Nagcarlan danced a creative interpretation of the song Sirena.

Children’s Theater Event

The ARTIST Inc provided repertory guidance and technical assistance to the following:  (a) MCW Repertory Company for their theatre play entitled Mga Kuwentong Pambata on March 9 at Binan; and (b) Montessori Children’s House for their pre-school events on March 18 and 22 at Los Baños.

Cooperative Foundation’s Creative Conference

In a seminar-workshop initiated by the Metro-South Cooperative Bank Foundation Inc (MSCBSF) entitled Community and Social Development, ARTIST Inc rendered performances and introduced creative approaches in making the whole event a participative and creative endeavour. The performances tackled issues on community and social development.

Puhunan, Pepe’s Wall, atbp at UPLB OICA

The Southern Tagalog Festival is an annual arts festival initiated by the UPLB Office of Initiatives for Culture and the Arts in celebration of the National Arts Month at UP Los Banos. On its third season, the festival was a month-long event that featured the different art organizations and genre. ARTIST Inc performances showcased excerpts from the plays Ang Puhunan, Pepe’s Wall, the music of CLAP and Kalantog. Koryo Arts Ensemble of Liliw-Nagcarlan rendered a dance interpretation.   

7th TANGHAL & ARTIST Inc’s PEPE’S WALL

February 13, 2013 -- Seven (7) organizations from different regions in Luzon were selected as official entries to the 7th TANGHAL sa Luzon/National University-based Theatre Festival. 

Initiated by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in partnership with Sining Banwa and the event also featured a collaborative performance entitled Biyaheng Luzon. 

ARTIST Inc performed the play about Rizal and his childhood friend. Entitled PEPE’S WALL, the entry was based from Bonifacio Ilagan’s award-winning play in Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards.

Ang Puhunan, 5th at CCP’s PASINAYA

February 3, 2013 -- The Cultural Centre of the Philippines conducted its annual open house presentations of short performances entitled PASINAYA. ARTIST Inc was once again invited to perform. In commemoration of the 150th year of Andres Bonifacio’s birth, ARTIST Inc launched the play entitled Ang PUHUNAN, a musical drama based on the life of the hero as an artist.  

12th PISTA ng Dulaan at Sining

February 1, 2013 -- LINANG Inc and ARTIST Inc launched the 12th Pista ng Dulaan at Sining. Hosted by Letran-Calamba at Bulwagang Lacordaire , the whole-day event featured interactive workshops and performances with children’s organizations and programs in Laguna. Short performances were rendered by different groups, namely: Sitsiritsit Letran Calamba, CLAP, Teatro Guysayco-GCES Nagcarlan, SPA Pangkat Musika-JRMS, SPA Pangkat Folkdance-JRMS, Tanghalan SPED-CNHS, Tanghalan SPED-JRMS, MCW Repertory Co and the Pangkat Bulilit Rondalla Letran Calamba.

Mapapanood si Andres Bonifacio bilang alagad ng sining sa dulang Puhunan sa PASINAYA ng CCP sa Pebrero 3. Masasaksihan naman si Jose Rizal sa panahon ng elektroniko sa dulang Pepe’s Wall bilang opisyal na kalahok sa 7th TANGHAL National University-based Theater Festival ng NCCA sa Pebrero 11-13 sa Legazpi City, Albay. 

Makakasama ng dalawa sina Isko at Iska sa Southern Tagalog Festival ng UPLB Office of Initiatives for Culture and the Arts sa Pebrero 22  sa D.L.Umali Hall.  Siyangapala, mapapanood rin ang ilang mga halaw na tagpo sa Nineveh Art Gallery (Sta Cruz, Laguna) sa Pebrero 16.  ’Yan ang ilan lamang sa regalo ng ARTIST Inc para sa ika-25 taong birthday nito sa pagdiriwang ng buwan ng pambansang sining.
